Volunteering in Russia

Title:Volunteering in Russia

Summary:

During the Study Visit of European youth organizations to Russia in summer 2006 (hosted by SFERA) only few youth organizations working in social sphere were identified in Nizhniy Novgorod region. The biggest number of youth initiatives here is developing on the base of Universities and connected with academic education. The main goal of volunteer's work in supposed project is promotion of youth international projects of non-formal education for youth, development of workcamps program among NGOs and involvement of big number of Russian young people into workcamp activities in the third Russian city – Nizhniy Novgorod.
The volunteer will organize presentations of YOUTH IN ACTION program and other youth programs for NGOs, schools, universities and non-formal youth groups as well as to help them to create projects inside this program and to participate in other programs for youth. Also, the volunteer will help to organize workcamps in Russia and possible lead them.

Tasks:

The main tasks of the volunteer are:
- the EVS volunteer will search for places for the presentations, organize different promotion actions, organize and participate in the presentations of workcamps, work with local volunteers, who are going to help in the SFERA office;
- lightening of possibilities of cooperation with Russians for foreign NGOs, schools and universities;
- consulting and other kinds of support for young people and organizations which will initiate participation in supposed programs;
- the EVS volunteer will lead primary consultations and first coming consultations in the SFERA office, prepare materials for the presentations, make a data base of all possible workcamps for 2010;
- EVS volunteer will help future volunteers to tell volunteers what is workcamp and volunteering in general, to choose project, to fill all necessary documents in, to fill in the volunteer data base;
- promote of the workcamps in Russia on national and international level;
- SFERA has a web site (in Russian and in English) and the volunteer will update the page, to upload some news etc about workcamps in Russia;
- the volunteer will contribute with the hosing organization in order to help them and control that everything were ready in time;
- The EVS volunteer will give them informational support, to prepare some useful links about Russia, to control that all volunteers receive all necessary documents like invitation, visa and info sheet in time;
- in the period when SFERA leads the workcamps. The EVS volunteer will go to some of our workcamps to be a camp leader;
- the volunteer will have chance to organize her own mini project on the base of any NGO in Nizhniy, which will be created according to the interest of the volunteer.

Selection:

Russian language is very important! Readiness to work in the SFERA team.

Specific selection:

CV (resume) and motivation of the candidates have to be sent to SFERA one week before the selection procedure. As far as Russia is a partner country for Youth in Action programme. The EVS project could be realized only with the partner from EU country, as the result the vacancy is open obly for EU citizens.

Time Bank

Title:Time Bank

Summary:

The project realizes in cooperation with Nizhniy Novgorod Voluntary Service and aims the development of the Time Bank program (www.timebank.ru). This is the program of addressed direct help of one person to the other with following opportunities to get the service from other people as well. For example, if you walk with the dog of the old lady during 3 hours you can ask about 3 hours of English classes from the Time Bank.

Tasks:

The tasks of the volunteer are:
Making presentations of the Time Bank for the local community;
Working with computer database of clients;
Individual supervising of people during their first service;
Administrative and creative help to Time Bank staff during seminars, events, conferences;
Telephone consulting and interviewing of new clients of the Time Bank.

Selection:

Russian language on the communication level is necessary.

Children cancer hospital

Summary:

The project is realized on the base of the children cancer hospital in cooperation with children creative center of Nizhniy Novgorod. Children usually spend more than 6 months in this hospital and they strongly need moral support first of all.

Tasks:

The volunteers tasks are: organizing of leisure time of children (games, hand craft and art studios, common events like watching cartoon etc.), individual supervising in making school homeworks, working on hospital decoration. In June, 1st we usually organize a charitable event for this hospital when everybody can gift something for children or can participate in common games, concerts, shows. So the volunteers will be able to practice administrative skills in planning and organizing such event.

Selection:

Basic knowledge of Russian language is very welcomed.
Creative skills is necessary.
Group project for 2 volunteers.

Children hematology hospital

Summary:

The project realizes on the base of the children hematology hospital in cooperation with children creative center of Nizhniy Novgorod and foundation "Hematology and health". The volunteers are supposed to work directly with children in the hospital in order to support them in day-to-day activities.

Tasks:

The volunteers tasks are: organizing of leisure time of children (games, hand craft and art studios, common events like watching cartoon etc.), individual supervising in making school homeworks, working on hospital decoration. The foundation "Hematology and health" regularly organizes events on collecting blood and they will ask the volunteer to support with administrative help in such events as well.

Selection:

Basic knowledge of Russian language is very welcomed.
Creative skills is necessary.
