Haus Trillup

Title:Haus Trillup

Organisation:BHH Sozialkontor gGmbH

Duration:12 months

Location of the project: Hamburg (Germany)

Start: 01 September 2010

Number of volunteers: 1 open place

Deadline for applications: 19 January 2010

Summary:

40 intellectually disabled adults live in 6 residential units in house Trillup. Every resident has his/her own room. Two persons share an apartment. The residents of house Trillup go to work during day time. This means, that they are out of house Trillup during the day. Therefore the staff members start their work in the afternoon and finish their work at 22:00 pm. The residents lead a relatively independent life. The company and support we offer focuses on activities that give structure to the day, especially leisure time activities. Activities that go together with every household like washing the dishes, shopping and cleaning also belong to the support we give to the inhabitants. The amount of support depends on the individual resident and his or her individual need of support. 2 – 3 staff members work in every residential unit to support the disabled, one staff member is responsible for home economics. We also employ young people doing their alternative civilian service or a voluntary social year.

Tasks:

The volunteer works 35 hours on 5 days per week. There is an entitlement to holidays for 2,5 days per month. Usually the volunteer works in the afternoon or evening hours, because many of the disabled persons go to work (e.g. in a sheltered workshop). Sometimes the volunteer will have to work at the weekend when residents want to visit activities like a concert or a festival. If there are activities with a disabled person at the weekend, the volunteer will be compensated with extra days off for his or her participation in these activities.

The European volunteer belongs to one of the 6 residential units of house Trillup, where he or she will stay during most of the time of the stay. The volunteer takes part in usual tasks of the household like shopping, cooking, cleaning up (only in connection with cooking!). The focus of the volunteer's activities lies on leisure time activities together with the disabled persons. Going for a walk, visiting the cinema, accompanying day trips, billiard and game playing are examples of possible activities. It is also possible that the volunteer develops his or her own projects. The European volunteer can organize group offers like a cooking class, music group, sport group (we have a small gym) or can do some baking for Café Bohne … - he/she can give his/her fancy full scope. We are open to the volunteer's ideas and support these.

Selection:

We wish to welcome young people, who bring along cosmopolitanism, interest in other people, fancy, initiative, who like to communicate and have the ability to listen to other people – these are features that help the project to be a success for everybody. Besides these abilities we wish the volunteer to be willing and motivated to learn German.

Specific selection:

We are looking for a young volunteer aged between 18-24 years.

Mobile youth work

Title:Mobile youth work

Organisation: JugendSozialwerk Nordhausen e.V.

Duration:12 months

Location of the project: Nordhausen (Germany)

Start: 01 June 2010

Number of volunteers: 2 open places

Deadline for applications: 18 January 2010

Summary:

The European volunteer will work at the mobile child and youth project "Mobilé". The aim and pur-pose of this project is to manage and connect different leisure time and educational offers for chil-dren and youth and the flexible social group work in Nordhausen. Our methods are based on games, adventures and creative activities.

Creative offers…

…materials like clay, wool, plaster, colours and different ingredients from the nature make it fun to experiment and be surprised. The work challenges our creative minds and our fantasy as well as our accuracy and patience.

Educational games…

…purposefully influence group dynamical processes. The participants need to be open towards each other and be ready to try something new and different. Their trust in each other, ability to help and be helped, cooperation, responsibility and physical touch are all elements that help forming this kind of pedagogic.

Adventurous activities…

…like climbing on rocks, mountains and our climbing tower in the middle of the city are not just for physical qualities like strength and endurance suitable. They also allow people to meet and challenge their fears and own limits, and develop from the experiences.
The "Hochseilgarten" (rope course) can be compared to a great "tool-box" - filled with tools to start and develop group processes. The participants are confronted with extreme challenges ten meters above the ground and have to work together as a group to solve the tasks.
Canooing, trekking, mountain biking, camping and other outdoor activities are also part of Mobilé's repertory.

Youth leisure time work:

"Das Haus" ("The House"), situated in the middle of Nordhausen, is the head quarter for all of Mobilé's activities. In addition, it offers children and youths the opportunity to get involved in creative courses that run permanently throughout the year or single-day actions in the games- and adventure pedagogical area. Schools and other non-profit organizations are given the freedom and space to create and carry through own ideas and projects as well. We follow a "partly open door" concept, and rely on the participation of youths. Our target groups are students, apprentices, young employees and unemployed.
Extracts from our programme:
- pottery courses, photo courses, creative design
- arranging of public parties/celebrations
- participation in youth exchange programmes and adventure pedagogical measures
- and so on…
Next to the stationary work, Mobilé also has a mobile "unit", where our whole spectrum of methods and activities are shown. Mobilé has a firm place in the leisure time activities in the Nordhausen region. Our bus, decorated in Harlekin-style with a huge logo on the side, is a well known sign amongst children and youth that something is going on. All over the city and its surroundings we arrange regular activities and special single climaxes.
Since 2004, Mobilé has been responsible for a climbing tower and a rope corse in the very heart of Nordhausen. These attract children and youth from within the city, as well as people from further away.
With the following model examples, Mobilé invites children and youths to take an active part in our work:
* Theme day water (fishing from the rope course, making ships, boatrace, throwing waterballoons...)
* Theme day earth (making a loam oven, pottery, painting with natural earth colours, making soup over open fire with ingredients from the earth, working with plaster…)
* Theme day jungle (from "three" to "three" in the rope course, making giant insects and hunting them, picking fruit in the rope course…)
* That's how the world plays! (Games from all over the world with international guidance)
* Safari through the theatre square (making animals from huge cardboard boxes and paint)
* The way our grandparents used to play (rediscovering old street games)
* Public playing (badminton, frisbee…)

Tasks:

The European volunteers should participate in the internationalisation of our work. Depending on their interests and talents they are welcomed to get involved in all of the mentioned areas, to use their experiences and possible different way of thinking to develop the already existing projects or to create totally new offers and projects.
The documentation of both the new and edited offers should make it possble for Mobilé to conctinue the projects also when the volunteer is gone. This way, we will be able to offer a wide range of intercultural activities.

It is possible for the volunteer to work in any of the mentioned parts of Mobilé. During his/her six first weeks the volunteer will get to know the range of tasks and the different possibilities he/she has in the various institutions. Afterwards we, together with the volunteer, will decide where he/she is to work. This means that the range of tasks will vary a lot from one volunteer to another. It could either focus on one of the sub-projects, or it could include more or all of them. Because of this, we choose to make an extensive list of tasks from our diffferent sub-projects. From this list we then compose a concrete table of tasks.

"The House"
The resources of "The House", when it comes to material and space, is ideal for the volunteer to carry through his/her own ideas. We have a fully equipped creative room with an ofen for burning ceramics, pool- and table tennis tables, sewing machines, a street ball field, a small well-equipped kitchen, a photo lab, a room for gymnastics with a ballet bar and mirrors and several other recreation rooms. The volunteers have the opportunity to participate in the direction of the existing courses and activities, as well as develop own projects. Their colleagues by Mobilé will of course help and support them in doing this.

The mobile leisure time activities
The offers from "Team Mobilé" are based on a fixed programme with set activities. However, we can also arrange individual, special or thematic happenings. The volunteers will be made familiar with planning and carry through such activities. They will learn how to work by a checklist including all the administrative and organisational facts about the single happenings. When carrying through the activities, the volunteers' tasks will reflect their interests and talents. One of the volunteers will for instance help children and youths that want to climb, bacause of his/her knowledge of climbing (which might be knowledge that he/she has brought with him/her, or things he/she has learned by working with Mobilé). Another volunteer might be responsible for keeping the children that cannot participate in the adventorous activities from getting bored, through playing games or doing what-ever is in the volunteer's interest. Versatility and initiative are important in this work.

Selection:

When doing a year of voluntary work by Mobilé, one should be friendly, open, engaged, flexible, patient, independent, able to deal with conflicts and work in a team. The volunteers should enjoy working with children and young people and want to carry out own ideas and projects. We also expect them to be flexible as to the working time, as already mentioned.
The volunteers should already have enough knowledge of German to manage in everyday situations, and of course have an interest in and want to learn more.
It would be highly appriciated if the applicant has a driver's licence.

Specific selection:

no specific procedure - we´ll send you our application form

Upsala

Organisation:Upsala

Location of the project:Germany

Deadline for applications: 16th of october

Summary:

I would like to inform you that we are going to apply for some projects for the november deadline to start evs projects in the beginning of next year.
Please find attached the list of our evs hosting projects as well as the projectdescription of the hosting project Upsala.

Beside this new project (upsala) we would kindly ask you if you have interested volunteers for the project 2009-DE-122. it is also a new one and they will host evs-volunteers from next year onwards for the first time. they already have experiences hosting international volunteers, but short time in international workcamps and now they want to try to host a long term volunteer. but the volunteers must be aware that this project is isolated, located in a small village, that´s why it is a big advantage if future volunteers already have german language knowledge and are able to live in an isolated place. for the success of the project it´s helpful if the volunteers have good drawing skills. cause this will be a main point of the work. it is an archeological project working at a former castle or burg. so this could be interested for volunteers with historical interests.

to apply for the project(s) I need the cv, foto and a special motivationletter for the project your volunteer is interested in. please notice that a general motivationletter will not be enough.
we need the applications of interested volunteers till the 16th of october.

for questions or additional informations don´t hesitate to contact me.
